Most Popular Feature Walls
in Swansea
Swansea homeowners prefer understated elegance that enhances rather than dominates their space. We create designs that work with both period character and modern family life.
Popular Swansea Colours
- Coastal blues and sea greens - Make rooms feel larger while creating sophisticated drama
- Warm greys and charcoal - Create striking contrast and make other walls feel brighter
- Heritage greens and deep burgundies - Add richness without making rooms feel dark
Popular Swansea Patterns
Stripes
Still the top choice for Swansea homes. Vertical stripes make Victorian ceilings look higher. Horizontal stripes make narrow terraced rooms feel wider.
Geometric patterns
Hexagons and diamonds create modern sophistication in both period and contemporary homes.
Wallpaper & Botanical prints
Leaf patterns and florals that reflect Swansea's coastal setting.
Textured wallpapers
Raised patterns, grasscloth, or metallic finishes that catch light differently throughout the day.
Feature Wall Painting Questions
How much will a feature wall cost me in Swansea?
You're looking at £200–£450 for a standard living room wall, depending on what state it's in and what paint you go for.
Decent wall with quality emulsion? £200–£280. Premium brands like Farrow & Ball? £300–£400. Textured or specialist finishes add another £50–£100.
Walls needing repairs or prep work cost more because we need extra time getting them right first. But it's still half the price of doing your whole room.

Will a dark feature wall make my small room look even smaller?
No – if you do it right, it'll make it look bigger.
Paint the far wall (opposite where you walk in) in a deep colour and it makes that wall recede, creating depth.
Your room suddenly feels wider. Paint the long wall though, and yeah, you'll make it feel cramped.
If your room's properly tiny, sometimes painting everything the same rich colour works better than trying to trick the eye.
How long does it take to paint a feature wall?
Usually 1–2 days. Day one is prep, primer, and first coat. Day two is your second coat and touch-ups.
If your wall needs repairs or damp treatment, add an extra half day. We'll tell you that upfront when we quote.
Which wall should I choose for my feature wall?
The one your eye goes to when you walk in. Simple as that.
- Living rooms: behind your sofa or around your fireplace.
- Bedrooms: behind the bed.
Avoid walls with loads of doors or windows – all those breaks kill the impact.
We'll look at your room layout and light when we come round and tell you which wall gives you the best result.
Should my feature wall be darker or lighter?
Darker, nine times out of ten.
Go 3–5 shades darker than your other walls for proper impact. You can go lighter if your other walls are already dark, but honestly, if you're going lighter you might as well paint everything the same colour.
The key is contrast. One shade different looks like you ran out of paint. Go bold or don't bother.
Do I need to use primer first?
Yeah, you do. Not optional if you want it to look right and last.
Primer helps your paint stick, stops the old colour bleeding through, and means fewer coats.
We always prime when painting over dark colours, on repaired walls, over glossy finishes, or on fresh plaster.
Skipping primer is the number one reason DIY feature walls fail – patchy coverage or peeling within months. Not worth it.
